15 Tall and Extended Brands You Need to Know – Holiday Roundup

We’re almost at the point of gift-giving season and if you participate, we’ve created a comprehensive list of new small-business retailers that we’ve featured here at the Tall Society.

We feel strongly about sharing this list with you because in the 2.5 years that we’ve profiled new tall and extended independent brands, a whopping 8 out of 22 have shut down their sites and ceased production. That’s 36 percent!

It’s not unusual for a fashion startup to fail. You have to see a need in the industry, dream up your own solution, develop a design, create a prototype, source materials, find a factory who will take on your small scale production but not drive up your cost, find consumers, market to these consumers, and then make the finished product available for them to purchase. We haven’t even talked about the money needed to fund this process! A large scale brand like GAP or Express has a salaried team for each of those steps, with discounts from vendors for giving them such large business.

So how do we support our Tall independent brands that have worked so hard to make us clothes that actually fit? By purchasing their stuff, by spreading the word, or by simply sharing this list on social media.

Before we get into this list, let me clarify that you should not feel pressure from me to buy anything from these brands. The holiday season is stressful enough and…does anyone else feel like it immediately follows wedding season? Our hope is that if you do have the means, consider buying from one of these independent retailers before succumbing to your usual Amazon default list. If you do not have the means or simply don’t wish to purchase, consider sharing this list on social media or by email or by word of mouth.

Overall, we want you to know that we at The Tall Society have vetted the retailers on this list. We vouch for the quality of the fabric and the workmanship of the clothing. We’ve worn these pieces. We’re sharing these brands because we genuinely like to wear them. So, without further ado…
