The Focus on Quality & Comfort

There’s a shift happening in the fashion industry and forgive me if I’m the last person who noticed. Instead of rushing to cheaply imitated styles from the runway, designers are turning inwards to create new textiles. Focusing on the fabric means that companies are caring about quality, and even more enjoyable, comfort.

Jill is a great example of focusing on the fabric. Their Pure Jill Luxe Tencel Collection is made from a unique fabric blend (Tencel/poly/spandex) that feels soft to even the most sensitive skin. The simple, unstructured shapes and solid color palette are a sweet dream to aspiring minimalists like me.

I’m wearing my favorite item of the collection, the Pure Jill Luxe Tencel Dipped-Hem Dress, in Black. The soft, buttery fabric has a satisfying weight to it, which also makes the dress incredibly forgiving. If you must dress up, wear this dress to your heaviest meal or on the worst day of your cycle; you will receive compliments.

One of the issues that prevent me from enjoying unstructured styles like this dress, however, are their tendency to make one look pregnant. To avoid this, I added a belt to cinch my waist, but I think it might be unnecessary. If you choose your true size and resist the urge to order up a size, the dress should comfortably flatter your silhouette. The slight slit at the bottom gives coy, feminine vibes to an otherwise basic shape — a nice detail.

I paired this dress with Pure Jill Luxe Tencel Easy Pants, in Gray. The pants have an elastic waistband and a cozy, loose fit. They are several style steps up from sweatpants and perfect for lounging. I might also get away with wearing these out in my new home of Los Angeles, a city where women wear fitness pants to brunch.

Each of us, I suspect, would always like to be comfortable in our outfit choices, but there are occasions where we tall girls need a little extra comfort, like airplane travel. This J. Jill outfit is perfect for my upcoming flights to visit family. It’s soft and flexible enough for me to pretzel into my seat, but stylish enough to show my hosts (parents) that I put effort into meeting them.

Hope you enjoy this collection as much as I do!
