‘Meet Your Tall Sisters’ – Marie Camara of LIMANYAA

Tall sisters, meet our newest friend Marie Camara, French shoe designer and creator of the soon-to-be classic label, LIMANYAA. This luxury leather label creates gorgeous feminine styles for women sizes 10-15. We’re obsessed!

What is your full name?

Marie Camara.

How tall are you?

I am 5’7 or 1m70.

Where are you from and where do you currently live?

I was born and raised in France. I live in a pretty city called Lyon. Lyon is the third largest city in France, after Paris and Marseille. Lyon is the French capital of gastronomy and is famous for the Festival of Lights.

My parents immigrated from Guinea in West Africa. LIMANYAA means “perseverance” in Soussou, a Guinean dialect. Perseverance is one of my values. Women with big feet must persevere to find shoes that fit. The name is a nod to my origins.

What was your career before you decided to start LIMANYAA?

I worked for 7 years in the transportation field. I was a customer advisor, a transport coordinator and a account manager. I have always wanted to work in a field that would allow me to speak English.

Tell us the story of how you decided to start your own shoe company.

I have always known that one day I would create my own company. In 2014, an employment protection scheme was deployed in my company. I chose to go back to school and I successfully completed a Master of Management degree.

During that year I had a school project on the creation of a company. What had started as a practical exercise has now become a reality!

What inspires you in creating your designs?

I work with a shoe designer who helps me turn my vision into reality. I also get my inspiration from the everyday life. I want my shoes to be modern, elegant, feminine, comfortable, and most of all, timeless. For now, I propose the wardrobe essentials: high heels, derbies, and ballerinas flats.

Who is the woman that needs a pair of LIMANYAA? Who are you targeting with this brand?

The woman that needs a pair of LIMANYAA is a woman who wants affordable, quality shoes in the sizes 10 to 15. All of our shoes are handmade in Portugal with high quality leather. We created our own molds in order to offer the highest comfort. We also have wide-fit ballerina flats. Our shoes are versatile so you can wear them at work, to go shopping, or for a date!

All women can wear LIMANYAA shoes; we seek to provide beautiful, timeless options—especially in difficult-to-find sizes!

What is your favorite shoe in the line?

I like every type of shoe: flat, with high heels, colourful… I can wear high heels on Monday, sneakers on Tuesday… I do not have a particular style.

What does a typical day look like for you?  What do you like to do for yourself?

I do not have a typical workday! No routine. Indeed, being an entrepreneur gives me several caps to wear. I can do accounting in the morning and in the afternoon, find myself in the countryside, preparing for a photoshoot with the models. I can spend the day thinking about the new collection, focus on logistics, etc.

During my free time, I like spending time with my family and friends. I cook, go shopping, travel, play sport, but I also focus a lot on my business!

Tell us about your journey to self-acceptance and embracing your height.

I am 5’ 7”, so I didn’t struggle with self-acceptance due my height. I have pretty long legs, but I have never had difficulties to find pants that fit because in France, brands like ZARA have offered long pants for several years.

Shoes are different. I am size 10.5 or 11, and most women in my family wear size 8 or 9. After struggling for years to reconcile my femininity and style with the options available, I created LIMANYAA to help women like me! Rather than dwell on the downside, I want to see the glass half-full: whatever my size is, at least I have two feet and I can walk and run!

Now, I am very thankful because thanks to my long feet, I have created my own brand and I make women happy. It is so rewarding to receive thanks from women for enabling them to wear heels in their size! I love being part of the Tall Community.

Do you have any parting words of advice for our Tall Sisters who might be struggling with their confidence?

We do not choose our origin, our height, or the size of our feet. When you are tall, people see you no matter what. There is no magic recipe; you cannot hide yourself.

Tall sisters, we have to stand tall proudly and think about all the advantages of being tall. If exude positive vibes, people will feel it and receive it. Lets not forget : ALL women are beautiful!
