Monday November 13th, 2017 is a date that will be forever engraved in my memory. My mind is still buzzing from all the impressions of the day.
Let’s start at the beginning, shall we?
I’ve read about the Glamour Women of the Year Summit, but I had never considered attending. How would I even go about scoring a ticket? Well, Tall Sisters, sometimes you have to speak things into existence! The stars aligned that day and your girl went to represent our community.
Supermodel and body acceptance activist Ashley Graham hosted the summit which took place in the Brooklyn Museum. She did an incredible job; that woman is full of energy!
The day was filled with inspiring interviews and speeches that focused on current issues facing women. Chelsea Clinton and Laverne Cox started the day by discussing “How To Keep Pushing When The World Keeps Pushing Back,” Ibtihaj Muhammad received the first Barbie with a hijab in her image, and surprise guests former Vice-President Joe Biden and his lovely wife Dr. Jill Biden reminded the whole room just how full of potential we all are. Naomi Campbell, Tracy Ellis-Ross, the Bush Twins, and many more showed up to inspire us. I don’t mean to brag, but the line up of QUEENS and the feeling in the room was electric!!
When you know you’re going to be surrounded by boss babes, you step up your wardrobe game. New York & Company was kind enough to ensure I looked the part.
Now first and foremost, I am very late to the New York & Company party, but I am telling you that I am here to stay! Tall Sisters, if you have never shopped there before, go do it now! I have never been more serious. They have an incredibly extensive tall collection, namely online, and you need to explore it. Expect to hear a lot more on the latest NY&Co Tall finds right here on TheTallSociety.com.
Back to my looks during the Glamour WOTY day. During the summit, I sported this embroidered sweatshirt from the Gabrielle Union collection. I attended a workshop with her, YES she is Fabulous, and Yes I also truly think she is a vampire, because she looks exactly the same as she did in the movie Bring It On.. Between Gabrielle and Naomi Campbell, I just can’t. Their beauty is blinding.
Because I have tremendous respect for Gabrielle, I had to honor her in my own little way, so I rocked her sweater. To infuse some color to the overall look, I opted for the Eva Mendes collection Selby Ankle pants.
The summit concluded in the afternoon. Afterwards, I had only 90 minutes to get to my hotel, refresh hair and makeup, change, pack, check out of the hotel, have dinner, and make my way to the Kings Theatre for the awards ceremony. Well, guess what? I failed miserably! I was an hour late for the awards and had already mentally prepared myself in the Uber that they would refuse entry due to my tardiness. Luckily, pretty much everyone was stuck in Brooklyn rush hour traffic and they pushed the start of the awards an hour forward. I mean, if that is not divine intervention, I don’t know what is! The universe really wanted me to have this experience.
The dress code for the awards was black tie, so I changed into this New York & Company Chiffon Overlay Jumpsuit; I am wearing a XXL Tall. This jumpsuit was such a perfect pick for the evening because I looked the part but was also super comfortable. After a full day of running around, this is exactly what I needed.
Tall Sisters, this jumpsuit is perfect for us long-legged ladies and comes in 3 colors. Get it for the upcoming holidays; you can actually eat while wearing this!
I tried my best to capture the day for you Tall Sisters to give you the inside scoop. Check out my day in video:
I walked away feeling inspired and validated to continue reaching for the stars unapologetically! I am reenergized to continue growing our community. Bringing women together is so incredibly important. The Future IS Female and we all have to do our part. Ensuring that we continue meaningful conversations and finding different inspirational voices to bring to a global audience is what I feel is my calling.
Tall Sisters, if you ever have the opportunity to attend this event, I would say don’t think twice! I hope to see you there next year.
