Welcome to Sunday my lovely readers!
This week I am delighted to introduce you all to a Tall Sister that has made a huge impression on me and I am so happy to have crossed paths with. In fall last year I was asked to assist with styling during the bi-annual Long Tall Sally pop-up shop in New York.
All these amazing tall woman with whom I have this indescribable bond because we understand each other surrounded me. The experience was amazing and I made lots of new friends. I was keeping busy when in walked this beautiful statuesque 6’5 woman, who came to see if the pair of over the knee boots she had seen online, were indeed over the knee. We started chatting, exchanged contact details and have stayed in touch ever since.
Marva has been involved in professional sports over for 30 years, with her husband Merton Hanks being an ex-NFL Player and the current NFL Vice President of Operations. It is her unique experiences that have proven to be the success formula for her consulting business, Marva Hanks Consulting LLC.

Has your height influenced your career in any way? Please share how.
My height may have influenced my career in that I was introduced to organized basketball in the 9th grade and prior to that just enjoyed playing with my male cousins. Because of organized basketball, summer camps and AAU basketball I had an opportunity to play in college on a full scholarship and then have access to machine of the billion-dollar college sports industry. In short my height afforded me access and exposure to collegiate and professional athletics. I met and married my husband also a college athlete while in college and a number of our peers -men and women- went on to have successful professional sports careers. My height increased my circle of influence beyond my own TALLTRIBE that was related to me.
Have you at any point struggled to accept your height? Please share your journey.
I was really blessed in not having the ‘traditional’ struggles with my height because my whole house was tall; literally the house that my grandparents built was custom to accommodate our tall family raised countertops cabinets etc. My family did an excellent job of filling up my love tank to overflowing so my esteem was strong and as I walked out the door of my house the world seemed odd, not me! I was trained by my grandmother to balance books on my head and walk tall; slouching was never an option! My grandparents were both 6’ had twin sons 6’9 and 7’ my mother is 6’2” and my dad was 6’4” my own brothers are 6’8”/6’9” so I am the shortest of my siblings!

In your opinion, what are key things to keep in mind when raising Tall Daughters?
As I raise my own little chicks I try and replicate what my family did for me. Making sure that the kindest words they hear coming off of my lips before they leave the house. When they would get home from school I would say, “did anyone discover how great you are today?”
If you can give your Tall Sisters one piece of advise, what would it be?
I would love to have my TALL TRIBE embrace all their inches at all times. Especially the young women in high school; be encouraged the guys are so interested in you when you get to college open up your dating prospects to those shorter than you. My love is 6’2.
What can we expect to see in the future from Marva?
2016 has already started off at an accelerated pace for my business and community projects and relationships. Because of the unexpected loss of my youngest brother in October 2015 I have responded with a newfound fearlessness towards life. The realization that tomorrow is not promised and I already live a life accountable to GOD has propelled me into an unapologetic approach to love and live without regret!

Is there anything else you would like to share with your Tall Sisters?
I love a quote by Tara VanDeVeer who recruited me while she coached at Ohio State, but is known for her success at Stanford “Passion Produces Its Own Energy”. I apply that to everything because life is too short not to live life passionately!
Thank you marvelous Marva for sharing your story with us! I am looking forward to connecting with you in person very soon!
Marva was recently featured in Haute Living Magazine where she shared how she got SuperBowl ready. Marva credits The Tall Society as one of her go to platforms to get Tall Fashion inspiration, which we love! Read the full article HERE.
I will be back next Sunday with some very exciting news, speak to you then!
