CHICAGO, IL – JULY 23, 2018 – The Tall Society™–– Where Tall Women and Girls Worldwide Unite –– invites the women of Chicago to its “Meet Your Tall Sisters Brunch,” from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at The Hampton Social, 353 W. Hubbard St. Chicago, IL. The event features an Artisan-style brunch, with vegetarian and gluten free options, and swag bags. Please join us for a one-of-a-kind experience. The Tall Society addresses a need, that for tall girls, starts at an early age. They often find themselves the object of bullying and ridicule at school and in social settings because of their unusual height. It gets harder for them to feel confident about who they are. Feelings of shame, negative self-images and ostracism can set in during these critical years, and often linger throughout young adulthood.
In 2015 Bree Wijnaar created a place to share her own tall experiences, and a way to connect with others who could relate to her situation –– The Tall Society. The Tall Society exists to provide support, foster engagement and facilitate advocacy among women 5’ 11” and taller.
Over the last two years, The Tall Society has held more than 16 “Meet Your Tall Sisters Brunches” in major American cities, as well as Paris, London, Amsterdam and Toronto. These meetups provide tall women an opportunity to build personal connections, local networks, and lay the groundwork for The Tall Society’s growing advocacy.
At a fundamental level, the brunches reduce tall women’s isolation by bringing them together to share stories, and revel in their diversity. “We are all tall,” says Wijnaar, “but we come in all colors, shapes and sizes. Being together allows us to celebrate our individual uniqueness while fully embracing our tallness. That is such an empowering feeling!”
